Swedish massage technique is to relax the entire body. This is accomplished by rubbing the muscles with long

gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. But Swedish massage therapy goes beyond

relaxation

Reflexology, also known as zone therapy, is an alternative medicine involving application of pressure to the feet

and hands withspecific thumb, finger, and hand techniques without the use of oil or lotion.

The suction and negative pressure provided by cupping can loosen muscles, encourage blood flow, and sedate

the nervous system (which makes it an excellent treatment for high blood pressure). Cupping is used

to relieve back andneck pains, stiff muscles, anxiety, fatigue, migraines, rheumatism, and even cellulite.

Reiki  is a form of alternative medicine called energy healing. Reiki practitioners use a technique called palm

healing or hands-on healing through which a "universal energy" is said to be transferred through the

palms of the practitioner to the patient inorder to encourage emotional or physical healing.

Prenatal massage is a type that's similar to regular massage – it aims to relax tense muscles, ease sore spots,

improve circulation and mobility, and just make you feel good. But prenatal massage is also

customized to the needs of pregnant women and their changing bodies, and therapists trained

in prenatal massage adjust their techniques accordingly.

Acupuncture is a form of alternative medicine in which thin needles are inserted into the body. It is a key

componentof traditional Chinese medicine. Acupuncture is a pseudoscience as the theories

and practices of TCM are not based upon scientific knowledge.

Deep tissue massage involves applying firm pressure and slow strokes to reach deeper layers of muscle and fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles).

Deep tissue massage therapy is similar to Swedish massage, but the deeper pressure is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension.

The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and  fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints).

A Hot stone massage is a massage that uses smooth, flat, and heated rocks placed at key points on the body.

Hot stone massage therapy melts away tension, eases muscle stiffness and increases circulation and metabolism.

A 2013 study found that people with rheumatoid arthritis may benefit from a moderate-pressure massage, such as hot stone massage.

Indian head massage uses and adapts classic Swedish massage techniques for treating scalp, face, neck, shoulders and upper arms.

It works on the areas of the body that are most affected by stress, however while the treatment is just on the upper part of the body it's effects are felt throughout the mind and body.

An Indian head massage stimulates the flow of blood, lymph and oxygen in your upper body, and therefore may clear your sinuses, relieve stress and help you sleep better.
